Kathryn Rhett teaches creative writing at Gettysburg, and advises the undergraduate magazine of literature and art, The Mercury. She is the academic advisor for all writing minors. She was Chair of the English Department, 2018-2024, and was the inaugural Ombuds for Gettysburg College, 2018-21.
Her collection of poetry, Immortal Village, was published by Carnegie Mellon University Press in 2018, which also published her essay collection, Souvenir, in 2014. Rhett is the author of Near Breathing (Duquesne University Press) and editor of the anthology Survival Stories: Memoirs of Crisis (Doubleday/Anchor). A 2007 Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Fellow in Nonfiction, she has published essays in Creative Nonfiction, Harvard Review, Massachusetts Review, Michigan Quarterly Review, The New York Times Sunday Magazine and elsewhere. Her essays have been chosen four times as Notable Essays for Best American Essays. She has published poetry in journals such as Grand Street and Ploughshares, and reviews in Chicago Tribune Books and Tikkun. In 2018, she was a fellow at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
