Declaring a Major or Minor

Declaring a major as early as possible is desirable.

  • Prospective Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies majors are strongly encouraged to talk with the Chair or a program advisor as early as possible in their academic careers, and to take WGS 120 in the first or second year.
  • Prospective minors are encouraged to talk with the Chair or a program advisor regarding their program of courses and to declare their minor in their sophomore or junior year.

Once a student has decided to major or minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, the following process should be completed:

  1. Make an appointment with the Chair of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies to discuss your course plan, and to decide on an official faculty advisor.
  2. Once you have decided on us as your major or minor, log in to Student Center and select the Declare a Major link, and fill out the form.
  3. Once the minor or major is recorded by the Registrar, the students should, as soon as possible, stop by the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Office (Weidensall 408) to fill out a WGS Studies major/minor cardso that they will receive all necessary information.

Subsequently, students will consult periodically with their WGS advisor to plan course schedules.
