Gettysburg College students interested in gaining hands-on experience in public history, museums, libraries, historic preservation and/or Civil War history are encouraged to apply to the Summer 2024 Funded Internship Program. Selected students will work at a range of well-known historical and cultural organizations, giving public tours of iconic historic sites, gaining hands-on experience with original artifacts and documents, leading educational programs, assisting with the preservation and management of historic landscapes, doing policy and marketing work, and contributing to ongoing digital history initiatives.
Students selected to participate in this internship program receive a $2,500 STIPEND (at minimum) from the CWI and FREE ON-SITE HOUSING. Applicants need not be history majors or specialists in the Civil War era, although good communication skills, substantial interest in the past, and a desire to share that interest with others are essential. The internship program is open to all matriculated Gettysburg College students, although first-years, sophomores, and juniors receive priority in selection, and is administered according to Gettysburg College’s nondiscrimination policy. Involvement in the program has given many previous Funded Interns a foothold in the field, opening doors to employment and further education and providing new professional paths to consider.
A wide range of opportunities are available for Summer 2024. For more information about available positions, as well as instructions for application, visit the Application Information page. Applications are due on FEBRUARY 12, and interviews will take place FEBRUARY 16-22 via Zoom.
