October 16, 2024
Dear Campus Community,
In June, I announced that Rod Tosten ’85, Vice President for Information Technology, will retire at the end of the Fall 2024 semester. Today, I’m writing to provide an update on IT’s leadership transition.
I am pleased to share that Gavin Foster, formerly Associate Vice President for Information Technology, will become the College’s Chief Information Officer upon Rod’s retirement. Further, John Whitehouse, formerly Data and Software Architect, will become Director of Data Systems.
Additionally, Information Technology will now be structured within the Finance and Administration Division, with Gavin Foster reporting directly to Mike Coyne, Vice President of Finance and Administration.
Gavin Foster has worked in Information Technology at Gettysburg College for nearly two decades. During his tenure, Gavin has led three departments: Educational Technology, Infrastructure and Computing, and Data Systems. He has overseen major systems implementations; driven policies and procedures around information security, inclusion, and belonging within IT systems; and helped to increase the efficiency of numerous departmental and institutional processes.
In his new role, John Whitehouse will focus on the operational management of the Data Systems Department. John has worked in data systems for more than a decade, and he has brought expertise gained from his years in military service and the corporate sector to strengthen the department. John has long been a respected leader in IT, coordinating the College’s data architecture and managing multiple complex and mission-critical projects.
Both Gavin and John are well-positioned to lead the Information Technology team into the future. Please join me in thanking Gavin and John for taking on additional responsibilities, and to Rod for his outstanding service to Gettysburg College over the past 35 years. I look forward to sharing more information about a celebration of Rod’s service in the weeks ahead.
Sincerely,
Bob Iuliano
President
