Dear Campus Community,
This past March, I informed the community of the untimely passing of Gettysburg College Trustee Troy Datcher ’90. As a colleague, mentor, and friend to so many of us, myself included, it was one of the hardest emails I’ve had to write during my presidency. Losing someone we love and admire is always difficult. This week is a testament to that truth.
Today, on the heels of what has been a challenging few days for our community, I am pleased to share an inspiring development with you. In memory of Troy and his remarkable legacy, The Clorox Company Foundation has graciously established the T. Troy Datcher Endowed Scholarship to honor his devotion to education and community service, and the values of social equity and justice. Troy dedicated more than 20 years of his career to The Clorox Company, serving in several roles, such as Chief Customer Officer and General Manager of the Kingsford brand.
Totaling $272,500, the T. Troy Datcher Endowed Scholarship embodies The Clorox Company Foundation’s work to foster healthy and inclusive communities, including youth development and education programs that increase equity of opportunity, access, and outcomes to create lasting social impact.
The preferential scholarship will be awarded to academically qualified students from Alabama or California who demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to those majoring in political science or with an interest in social equity and justice.
On behalf of our entire Gettysburg College community, I want to extend my deepest thanks to The Clorox Company Foundation for this generous gesture. It is a fitting tribute to a true champion of our Gettysburg College education and the leaders we produce.
Sincerely,
Bob Iuliano
President
