New Showcase Series for Employees

October 07, 2024

Dear Colleagues,

First, I want to give a hearty thanks to everyone who was involved in making our first night football game this past Friday a rousing success. I know it took many people from across campus to pull off such an endeavor, and I’m grateful for your energy and creativity.

To that end, I’m excited to announce another new initiative this year—one developed by the Administrative Advisory Council (AAC) and President’s Council: The Innovation and Creativity Showcase Series.

Over the course of the year, we will hold lunchtime presentations, open to all employees, that celebrate the remarkable creativity, innovation, and collaboration happening across campus. These contributions have not only strengthened our campus community but are also setting a precedent for the exciting work that lies ahead.

The lunch presentations will be held in the Atrium and your lunch will be provided by the College. Simply enter the Atrium from The Grill and say you are attending the Showcase Series. The presentation will begin promptly at 12:15 p.m., giving you enough time to grab your lunch from Servo.

Our inaugural session is on Wednesday, October 16, and will feature the team behind the College’s recent distinction of being one of 25 colleges and universities in the United States classified by the Carnegie Foundation and the American Council on Education as institutionally dedicated to leadership for public purpose. More details on their presentation, as well as our November presentation, can be found below.

In an era where higher education faces unprecedented challenges and opportunities, it is more important than ever that our entire campus community comes together to innovate and collaborate, ensuring we are fully preparing our students for a rapidly evolving world and workforce. Every day, departments, teams, and individuals across campus are finding ways to move the College forward from their corner of campus. This series is dedicated to shining a light on these extraordinary efforts.

If you’d like to showcase your work by presenting as part of this series or wish to nominate a colleague or team who you’ve witnessed demonstrate exceptional creativity and innovation, please fill out the following form. The AAC will review all submissions and select the presenters.

We hope to see you at our Showcase Series lunch!

Best,

Bob Iuliano

Classified: What the Carnegie Elective Classification for Leadership for Public Purpose means for Gettysburg College

In June, Gettysburg College received the distinction of being one of 25 colleges and universities in the United States classified by the Carnegie Foundation and the American Council on Education as institutionally dedicated to leadership for public purpose. Through this presentation, learn about the self-study work to earn this recognition, how what we have learned through the self-study and receiving this external recognition benefits our work across the College, and the ongoing efforts to further our institutional commitment to leadership for public purpose.

November 20, 2024:

Create. Reflect. Evolve.

This presentation highlights a collaboration between faculty, administration, and students in two student-centered courses: a First-Year Seminar and a 200-level elective held in the Innovation and Creativity Lab. Together, we explored creativity, personal growth, and innovative learning approaches. Through hands-on projects, reflective practices, and peer collaboration, students and instructors worked in partnership to foster a deeper understanding of course material. Key themes include embracing failure as a tool for growth, applying theoretical concepts to real-world situations, and encouraging self-awareness through reflection. This collaborative learning experience emphasizes the power of experiential education in building creativity, critical thinking, and a passion for lifelong learning.
